The location is perfect for students who enjoy city life. Birmingham is the best city I like in the UK. Aston has a high quality teaching and research standards for students, especially for whom studying in business-related subjects. Professors are all helpful and willing to be consulted.
The response of my application is very quite. Less than 1 month and I got the conditional offer. The IELTS standard in 2007 was 6.5 in overall. I did get 6.5 but I still attended the pre-sessional courses for 10 weeks in advance. I liked the pre-sessional courses as well since it was actually a pre-MBA course. Teachers are very professional in teaching every business-related subjects, including marketing, strategic management...etc. We also had group discussion and presentations in the course. It was a helpful pre-understanding for the following term-time modules.
I dont know well about the funding and scholarships.
I just got distinction with my study. I spent more than 20 hours studying per week and preparing for the assignments and presentations. My syndicate group was a suck, and there were many 'free-riders' in the group, so nearly every time I had to do everything in order to get great marks in presentations. I was annoyed this unpleasant situation, but I realised that it was actually a great opportunity for me to improve my presentation skills as well as academic writing. The course was definitely worth for money, though it was quite expensive for international students.
Life at Aston was very good. Birmingham is a great city to live. Everything is handy and easy to get from the city centre, you can buy what you want very easily.
The career service seemed only to provide service for MBA students. I went to several times to seek for help but the staff did not response my requests. There were many career seminars and job presentations only for MBA students and prohibited MSc students to participate in. I was kicked out several times when I accompanied with my MBA friends in the events. I was quite upset and felt discriminated at those time.
